by Philippe Daverio
Even Goethe came in Italy, it did not hurt either him or us. Indeed it seems that those parts of northern Lazio has for the first time, forty, knew the magical pleasures of the flesh. Perhaps followed the path already traced by Albrecht Dürer, who made two trips, always first in Venice and then a little around, so that the second time leaving forever Goethe anticipated the testimony of his performance in a splendid portrait of the Venetian maiden. Italy was then and certainly anch'oggi full of artists ready to make any kind of infection and welcomed anyone with transport considered necessary to increase their creativity. (PhD)

Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 20 at the Berengo Studio in Murano opens
www.padiglioneitalia 13x17, an exhibition performance by Philippe Daverio, which collects membership of 1,500 artists. The aim of the exhibition is to stimulate the current state of the art system in Italy in the Journal of declination 52 ° Biennale di Venezia.
13x17 www.padiglioneitalia concludes its cycle in Laguna, where it had begun, two years later. He appeared in Venice June 9, 2005 in the church of San Gallo, is now finishing a 9 June 2007 in the Murano's ancient glass furnaces Berengo. The other is
Venice to Murano. The growth of this exhibition, designed by Agudio Elena and Cristina Alaimo, brought in two years, with the organizational support of Robert and Jean Blanchaert Gaito, to be an instrument of wider investigations into the art world that is developed on the peninsula and islands.
The first edition was made possible thanks to the human and economic resources of a small group of volunteers.
This final edition was made possible thanks to the contribution Veneto Region, the Foundation CARISBO and Alfa Romeo.
If it is true, as claimed by Davenport, who according to the stochastic calculations, the historical projection of the number of artists in Italy should lead to a number of operators in 6000, the collection of 1,500 works submitted to a sample is very true and worth careful investigation and cultural anthropology.
The collection includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, collages, glass, ceramics, pottery made in a professional environment for the most part, in the apex of the amateur world, to a lesser extent, in the last part of the cosmos extreme experimental teaching, the IPM (juvenile detention) Treviso for young inmates and MAPP - Centre for Art Therapy - mental health department of Niguarda Hospital in Milan.
Some works were created by artists known to the critics and the market as Gianni Asdrubali, Kengiro Azuma, Franko B, Betty Bee, Berlingeri Caesar, Raphael Bueno, Caccioni Luca, Sandro Chia, Pirro Cuniberti, Giosetta Fioroni, Marcello Jori, Alejandro Kokocinski , Jannis Frances Lansing, Giuliano Mauri, Laura Panno, Tullio Pericoli, Marinelli Pirelli, Adriano Pompa, Lisa Bridges, Concept Pozzati, John Ragusa, Nicola Samorì, Luigi Serafini, Pino Spagnulo, Nanda Vigo, Gilberto Zorio etc.. there are others which basically underground, according to the parameter Duchamp quoted by Arturo Schwarz, selected on the basis of personal poetic inclinations of the curators, with artists such as Francesco Bocchini, Bruno Bordoli, Momo Calascibetta, Gabriele Destefano, Joseph Antonello Leone, Leonelli Luca, Gaetano Orazio, Clemen Parakeets, etc..
Special attention is devoted to visual creativity has not yet assimilated by the museum system as stable and marketable, that is the focus of the arts, design, graphic design, photography and video, with examples such as Melvin Anderson, Paul Anselmo, Benedetta Bonichi, Christopher Broadbent, Richard Dalisi, Miche De Lucchi, Jacopo Foggini, Frap, Alessandro Mendini, Massimo Micheluzzi, Nino Migliori, Katsu Mishima, Paola Navone, Carlo Orsi, Margherita Palli, Maria Grazia Rosin, Italo Rota, Ettore Sottsass, Oliviero Toscani, Giuliana Traverso, Massimo Vignelli, etc..
Philippe Daverio, talking about the project, said: "Art is discrimination. Among talents, including languages. But it can not be one opportunity. The first law requires that every work is not for sale but the lure of the chance of confrontation. La Biennale di Venezia was born over a century ago with just this purpose. He gambled and played with passion over the years, sometimes cheerful, sometimes depressed, but always effective. In the last three years has altered its character and was kneeling before interests a single direction.
Murano Venice has decided to help to rediscover the vital charm of pluralism ".
13x17 www.padiglioneitalia is the result of an operation started in response to the abolition of the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2005. No one had ever thought of buying the right websites, I just bought a 40 euro the first curators, starting a promotion for two years has continued to expand with an extraordinary success. At that time it had been appealed to all the artists active in Italy so that it would create a circuit able to witness their work. The works, whose only constraint was the size 13x17 cm. they came and many were exposed on the occasion of the Biennale in the small church of San Gallo, near Piazza San Marco, as a sort of votive offerings.
13x17 www.padiglioneitalia was beginning a propitiatory gesture to show that the abolition of the centrality of the Italian Pavilion and replacing it with a sad deposit could not respond to the incredible vitality in action.
The choice of two numbers often considered negative in the world of superstition was thus brought to its result multiplied with each other because these numbers give a positive sign and make all the works that make up the mosaic a kind of vast ex votes against all evil influences.
After the experience in Laguna, the exhibition circuited Italian territory from north to south (Biella, Potenza, Milan, Naples, Pescara, Palermo, Bologna, Rome).
a 13x17 will be published by Rizzoli published a catalog with the collection of the most significant works. The book, titled "13x17. 1000 artists for an investigation into eccentric art in Italy", edited by Jean Philippe Blanchaert and Davenport will be on sale this autumn.

Castle Grumello
Grumello Castle, ancient home of medieval origin, dominates the historic village of Monte in the Grumello Valcalepio, in the picturesque hills of Bergamo and Lake Iseo.
Born in 1200 as a medieval fortress, the Castle was the scene of fighting between the Guelphs and Ghibellines. He became, successively, the residence of commander Bartolomeo Colleoni during clashes between the Republic of Venice and the Duchy of Milan. In 1700 it was transformed into the home of noble families to the principles Gonzaga. Since 1953 the castle as the centerpiece of an old wine estate is owned by the family-Kettlitz Reschigna Milan.
The winery, one of the oldest in Italy, dates back to 1200 and has retained its original architecture for large vaults and stone walls. Here we design and develop the house wines, combining tradition with modern winemaking technology. In the picturesque medieval and eighteenth-century rooms of the castle held meetings, conferences and cultural events.
